Product Trivia:
The first McVitie’s Digestive
The first one was made by Sir Alexander Grant in 1892 in the McVitie’s factory of Edinburgh so the McVitie’s Original Digestive is more than a century old! See the ‘History’ section of the site for more about the history of McVitie’s biscuits.
The coldest McVitie’s biscuit
It is difficult to say the coldest a McVitie’s biscuit has been, but it was probably in the beginning of the 20th century when they used to be part of the survival kit of many explorers.
In 1924, the company received a letter from the George Binney, leader of the Oxford University Arctic Expedition, George Binney. He congratulated the firm for their excellent Digestive biscuits which were such a welcome feature of the team’s rations. The letter read: “Nothing which I can say will convey to you the extent of their popularity and you can be certain that not one crumb was left uneaten… The biscuits’ effect on morale is astonishing, and your biscuits were shield and buckler against the fog and the snow and the wind and the cold of the North Eastland. Believe me’’.
We don’t exactly know how cold it was, but probably far below zero…
The largest McVitie’s Digestive
The largest digestive biscuit in the world was made by McVitie’s in the early eighties - and what a monster it was. Almost a metre across and over 6cm (2.4 in) thick, the holes for this one-off whopper had to be made with a broom handle. It was transported from our factory in Ashby in a special presentation case to London for display at a garden party. There are no reports of a correspondingly large cup of tea waiting for it at the party but we’re sure a good time was had by all, nonetheless.
The smallest McVitie’s Digestive
If you are a real fan of McVitie’s you might already know that our range includes the McVitie’s Minis variants. They have a diameter of 3.2 cm (2.6 in). Titchy, but full of goodness and flavour!
The hottest McVitie’s Digestive
There’s no doubt that McVitie’s fans have taken their beloved Digestive all over the world with them but we’ve no exact correspondence on temperature. What we can say for sure is that the ovens where we bake our McVitie’s Digestive go up to 300°C / 572°F. So the hottest McVitie’s Digestive is actually every Digestive we bake in our ovens. Don’t worry; we leave them to cool down before they get to you.
McVitie’s Digestive Biscuits are available in leading supermarkets nationwide.

Members of 50th PMAP Annual Conference Directorate doing the thumbs up sign to signify that everything is in full gear at the launch of the country’s biggest HR event.
The global economic landscape is seeing a new dawn, with Asia as its center and the Philippines, its sweet spot. The turnaround could not have come at a more opportune time. A young Filipino workforce is raring to go and governance is breaking through a renaissance of accountability and transparency. The message is unequivocal: We are open for business! It’s all systems go.
This year, the People Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) will hold its Annual Conference that recognizes a challenge: the country is at the center of Global Opportunities. But more than recognizing that reality, we see it as our mandate. There’s no other way but to seize these possibilities. We are now at the brink of living our dreams and imaginings. There are no excuses. This time, we have to make it work!
The horizon has opened up and all eyes are on the Philippines as the world’s new economic tiger. The ball’s on our court and the challenge is to leap forward. We can no longer afford to move at our current pace. Catch-up, leapfrog… that is what we should do. But to realize this, we need to defy limits, break free from our self-imposed restrictions that used to define who we are and what we can do.
As we usher in this golden year of the PMAP Annual Conference, the organization take stock of the rich mine of ideas in our sharing and learning community. Fifty years of thought leadership, advocacy and camaraderie. A story that in this milestone year turns into our quest for GOLD.
“We EXPLORE the terrain as we paint the global economic landscape, create strategies, and search for talent. We MINE our collective experience as we extract issues, build consensus, and crystallize our advocacies. We REFINE our practice as we re-examine functional HR competencies. We SMELT the ore of our skills as we deep-dive into focused workshops to forge proficiency, mastery, and leadership. And we SHOWCASE best practices in HR and people management as we celebrate models and successes,” PMAP Vice President and Conference Chair Roberto Policarpio said during the launch.
The 50th PMAP Annual Conference will be happening at the Philippine International Convention Center from September 25-27 with the theme, ”Global Opportunities. Leaping Forward. Defying Limits.

Tamara Staples vividly remembers her first time at a poultry show.
“I remember stepping inside and being blown away by the birds,” Staples recounted. “They were gorgeous! And the show itself—the people, the smell, the sounds, the camaraderie of the shows and the beauty of the birds—who knew there were so many varieties of chickens beyond what you think about when they’re on your dinner plate?”
Staples’ love for the birds began during visits with her favorite relative, Uncle Ron, who lived in Athens, Ga., and was a chicken breeder. “I would go visit him and hang out behind his henhouse, and I started asking about chickens, and he invited me to that first poultry show 20 years ago,” said Staples.
With some guidance from her uncle, Staples began photographing the birds around the Midwest in Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio, and Indiana over four years to get enough material for her first book, The Fairest Fowl: Portraits of Championship Chickens, published by Chronicle Books in 2001. The Secret of Winning against Aging Revealed
The fountain of youth has been a constant human obsession since time immemorial. It’s not really an issue of a lust for immortality; rather, it’s the vain but very human desire to live just a bit longer than most and, more importantly, to stay young-looking for the longest possible time. Thus, the look of admiration among your peers during reunions and their insistence to try to ferret out your beauty secret undeniably takes the throne as the greatest compliment ever.
The quest for the fountain of youth, if there is any such thing, has obsessed people of many generations. Women, and men, too, hanker for the panacea to growing weakness, general bodily deterioration, unsightly wrinkles and pigmentations, and aches and pains.
We Filipinos have heard of Collagen as a powerful anti-aging weapon, since a product containing 5,000mg Collagen has been in the Philippine market for awhile. But beyond Collagen is a substance just recently introduced here: Hyaluronic Acid (HA), which is quickly catching fire for its great value in fighting against aging.
The Japanese Example
A local entrepreneur who’s the top executive of the Philippine subsidiary of Osaka-based Fine Company, Imelda Tesalona, RPh, has reported that high levels of Hyaluron had been singled out as the substance “responsible for long life in Japan, reputed to be the healthiest country in the world”. She added, “Japan, which also ranks high on the Global Power City Index, next only to London and Paris for many, many years, and Singapore as the next in line, is the country that has taken Hyaluron as an important subject of study and commercialization, and has so far been succeeding at the resulting breakthroughs.“
What this lady executive expressed is supported by studies and features readily available online. Add to what she shared the fact that of all the world’s populations, the Japanese population tops all other countries in terms of their ranking in the world’s average lifespan.
Tesalona enthused, “Fine Hyaluron & Collagen, flagship product of FINE subsidiary, contains as much as 60 mg Hyaluronic acid and, and other valuable youthfulness- and beauty-enhancing substances. It is a full armory of these potent substances which defend the body from the ravages of aging, which represents the worst possible deterioration of the body. Beauty-conscious people dread this phenomenon and are obsessed with waging an all-out war against it. They’re ever-mindful of discovering the secret of winning in the fight against aging for the longest possible time.
Fine Hyaluron & Collagen Armory
Tesalona disclosed, “The secret lies in what makes up FINE’s weapon: the ultimate combatants in the arena of aging: the very substances that the body loses out on as the body ages: Collagen—even topping off the body’s daily requirement at 5,250 mg per sachet prescribed for daily intake.”
She added, “To fortify the defense system, FINE Company Japan put in all of these in every sachet of Fine Hyaluron & Collagen: On top or the 5,250mg of Collagen for invigorating skin in order to attain youthfulness, Hyaluronic Acid - 60mg (moisturizing), Elastin - 15mg (flexibility), Biotin - 45mcg (beautifying skin), Pearl Coix Extract- 450mg (whitening), and Vitamin C - 100mg (antioxidant).”
“Hyaluronic Acid is a skin-nourishing and hydrating substance; it firms up Collagen in the skin, which it nourishes and hydrates. While Collagen gives skin its firmness, it is the HA that nourishes and hydrates the Collagen. Fifty percent of the HA in our body resides in the skin. Hyaluronic Acid production decreases with age, causing a reduction in moisture binding capacity, resulting in dry skin and weak joints.”
Tesalona shared, “FINE HA with its low molecular weight ensures optimum absorption and utilization by the intestinal tract,” and added these vital benefits from Fine HC’s other components: “Pearl Coix is an extract that has been used for over 30 years in Japan as a detoxifier and beauty supplement for clear, fair, and luminous skin; Biotin is useful in maintaining the health of the skin, hair, and nails; Elastin, is a Protein which works with Collagen, giving synergistic effect on elasticity and flexibility of the skin, allowing the skin to ‘spring back’ into place when stretched, so skin stays resilient and firm. Most familiar to us all, Vitamin C, which is also a component of Fine HC, is a potent antioxidant, indispensable in the production of Collagen.”
“Fine Hyaluron & Collagen benefits go beyond skin deep, and its nutritive value goes beyond Collagen; it truly befits being called: ‘The Secret Weapon’—take it from the Japanese who developed this brand and those in Japan and now, in many parts of the world, too,” the Fine executive assured.
”The good news are, in the Philippines Fine Hyaluron & Collagen are being distributed in Watsons stores so the weapon is available for all Filipinos who want to give youthfulness and beauty the most fortified defense system ever,” Tesalona ended.

“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.”
